US Economy is Struggling: Home Prices Fell 18.2% in November. Foreclosures Rose. Consumer Confidence Fell to Record Low.
US Economy is struggling: Home prices in 20 U.S. cities declined 18.2 percent in November from a year earlier, the fastest drop on record, as foreclosures climbed and sales sank. This is the biggest drop since records began in 2001, according to figures from S&P/Case- Shiller that cover 20 metropolitan areas. U.S. foreclosure filings jumped 81 percent last year as more than 2.3 million properties got a default or auction notice, or were seized by lenders, according to RealtyTrac Inc. Hence, it is not surprising that the consumer confidence in the U.S. also fell to record low. The Conference Board’s index of consumer confidence fell to 37.7, from a revised 38.6 in December, the New York-based private research group said today. The U.S. recession, which began in December 2007, has so far cost 2.6 million jobs and is already the longest in a quarter century. Read more for detail.
